WHY WE LOVE THE ATHENS AREA

Here are some of the things that we love about Athens and the surrounding area:

• It's a great place to raise a family! Oconee County schools are the best in the state and Jefferson City / Jackson County isn't far behind.  There are lots of great neighborhoods in Athens and the surrounding counties.

• The Athens area is growing, but has resisted the homogeneity of traditional urban sprawl. There is a lot of local history and flavor here!

• It has a slower pace of life than Atlanta, but still convenient to visit. (1 - 1.5 hr drive)

• There is an abundance of natural beauty and activities for the outdoor and fitness enthusiast: the state botanical gardens, parks, hiking trails, mountain biking, running clubs, just to name a few!

• For a small city, there is a rich culture!  Between the University, local venues, and the Classic Center, Athens produces and attracts a wide variety of musical and cultural productions.

• Athens has a vibrant food scene. Whether you're in the mood for a fancy Ramen bowl, upscale Southern dining, barbecue, authentic Latin cuisine, or even a peanut butter bacon burger, Athens has it all!

• Downtown Athens has a wonderful mix of shopping and restaurants.  Its a lively place, both day and night.

• Whether you are in the mood to cheer at a sporting event, or enjoy a symphony orchestra performance, the University attracts and produces a bevy of young talent and they are always eager to entertain!

• This list wouldn't be complete without mentioning that Athens has strong local pride.  This city is full of wonderful and interesting people... maybe that's why you're thinking about moving here :)
